Creamy Orzo with Chicken Italian Sausage & Spinach

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 4 Gartner’s Chicken Italian sausages, sliced
  • 1.5 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups fresh spinach
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for a bit of heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat
  2. Add the sliced chicken Italian sausage and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes
  3. Add in minced garlic and stir, cooking until fragrant
  4. Add in dry orzo and stir into the sausage and garlic mix
  5. Pour in chicken broth and heavy cream and mix together
  6. Add in garlic powder, onion powder, dried basil, oregano, salt, pepper and crushed red pepper flakes and stir
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally
  8. Once all of the liquid has been absorbed by the orzo, add in the spinach leaves and cook until wilted
  9. Top with additional salt, pepper and crushed red pepper flakes
  10. Enjoy!
